About Us
Paul and Lesley Shilling currently live in Encinitas, California. A native of New York, Paul received a B.A. from Cornell University in Psychology and M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Neurosciences from University California, San Diego. Paul recently retired from the UCSD Psychiatry Department after a productive 30-year career investigating the brain mechanisms underlying schizophrenia and the antipsychotic drugs used to treat this brain disease. After retirement, he has continued to work as a consultant. He is now also training photographers how to best organize, manage and edit their images in Lightroom Classic. He developed his passion for photography as a graduate student and found that this art form perfectly complemented the highly logical thinking used in his research.
Lesley, California born and bred, received her B.S. in Special Education from Clarion University in Clarion, PA. She went on the earn a Masters Degree in School Counseling from San Diego State University. She is now happily retired after 35 years of service. Lesley began making jewelry in 2002 and is continually evolving as a jewelry maker. Creating jewelry is completely different from teaching and is great therapy. Recently she has experimented with different techniques of abstract painting.
Paul specializes in nature and travel photography. One of his goals is to provide novel perspectives of natural subjects. He has exhibited his award-winning photography in numerous local shows and competitions. He has also judged many photography competitions. His images have been published in the book, San Diego’s North County Coast: A Photographic Portrait and in Nature’s Best magazine.
In her jewelry making, Lesley enjoys experimenting with novel techniques and materials. She specializes in ethnic and contemporary styles. Lesley has exhibited her jewelry in several local shows.
